Happy Friday!
It’s me again, Elizabeth C., with an update on my recent trip to the beautiful (and flat) state of Alabama, accompanied by 34 Chinese journalists and reporters.

Here are a few fun facts about the capital of the Yellowhammer State:
Montgomery, Alabama. Population – 205,764. Land area – 156.2 square miles. Home of the nation’s first trolley system and flight school, the Montgomery Biscuits, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Martin Luther King Jr. and our very own state-of-the-art Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) plant.
Our visit to Montgomery was centered around the plant tour and test driving all the Hyundai 2013 vehicles. HMMA has been giving free public tours since October 17, 2005, shortly after its historic grand opening in May of 2005. It was an incredible experience exploring the massive (2 million square-foot) facility and seeing one of the plant’s three shifts assemble Sonatas and Elantras, firsthand.
The tour took us through the stamping facility, vehicle assembly line, the two mile test track and the engine plant, where Hyundai’s Theta 4 cylinder Gasoline Direct Injection and Turbo engines are built and stored. The paint shop, however, was closed off to keep the area environmentally-controlled and prevent any particles from affecting the overall paint quality.
The factory currently has more than 3,000 employees and produces approximately 350,000 vehicles annually. If you think about it, that’s 100+ cars per employee, each year! Check out HMMA’s website for more information, or better yet, schedule your own personal tour.
Until next time!
Yours truly,
Elizabeth C.

When I went to see the plant (all the way from DC) I was also fairly impressed with the zoo there in Montgomery. I didn’t expect it to have so many different types of animals.
While Montgomery is pretty flat, I wouldn’t be calling Alabama a flat state until you’ve been north of Birmingham.
